Seth Godin, the bestselling author of 19 books and marketing genius, has posted a blog post everyday for the last 15 to 20 years. Every day. He encourages to write something. It doesn’t need to be good. Just merely do it.
Isaac Asimov, probably the most prolific author ever, published 400 books back in a time when it was hard to get books published. His secret to to writing was simple. He would sit down to his typewriter every morning at 6.30 and write till noon. It didn’t need to be any good, but he didn’ t negotiate with himself about the routine. He would write wether he felt like it or not.
Many other authors and writing coaches encourage to simply sit down and write. To get into the physical act of writing. When you get the hands moving, your mind will catch up.
You can start by writing about how you feel. Try recording your thoughts as they come: “Blah, I have nothing to say and omg this is boring why am I doing this, why is this so hard, how might I…”
And then just keep the hands moving.
Writing is exploring.
Keep at it and you’ll arrive somewhere.
